Guy Swan is an artist, composer and performer currently based in his hometown of nipaluna/Hobart, Australia. He creates enthralling ambient and experimental works which explore themes of subconsciousness and the human condition.

Inspired by everything from classical and jazz to punk rock and metal, Guy uses acoustic and electronic instrumentation, field recordings and creative uses of tape machines to manipulate the sonic fabric of the vast soundscapes he creates. Guy is always looking for new textures to add to his compositions, and experiments with making DIY equipment such as hydrophones and effects pedals which offer a singular and defined sound to his work. Since the release of his debut EP Diffusion in 2020, he has been researching the world of ambisonics and spatial audio and is working towards incorporating these elements into future recordings and live performances.

Having travelled extensively through North America, Asia, the Middle East and Europe, including a two-year stint in the UK, he chose to return home to pursue his studies in music technology and film composition at the University of Tasmania.

As a frequent collaborator, he was recently part of a group mixed media installation ‘Oscillations’ which won the Peoples Choice Award at the University of Tasmania’s 2024 Creative Lab event. He has also composed sound installations for group works in Entrepot Gallery and has performed and recorded in numerous ensembles both in Australia and Los Angeles. Guy also works with visual media and often incorporates elements of photography, video and lighting in his work, which has covered a diverse range of mediums from audio/visual installations, music for media, theatre, and live performance.
